thousands of years of cypriot heritage?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

thousands of years of cypriot heritage?

Postby gabaston » Mon Jul 25, 2005 11:49 pm

Answer this, we have been on this island for 4 millenia, you, nearly 4 centuries, who has more right to call himself Cypriot do you think

id like to say that my father spoke perfect greek, so much so that gcs were shocked to learn he was tc. his father's turkish was the same level as mine, okish. My grandfather's mother's turkish was worse, she could understand most but speak very little. This line of my family came from a village where greek had always been the first language. It is said that these people converted during the Ottoman times.

how far back does their cypriot heritage go, does it make them anymore cypriot?

Gabaston, I asked a similar question in the general forum some time ago in the "Cypriots made Mediterranean's first wine" thread.
What I said was:

We (GCs) feel that those things are part of our own history since the Greeks that came at around 1500BC were eventually mixed with the locals to produce Greek Cypriots. How do TCs feel?
One theory says that most original TCs were mostly GCs that changed religion. Others claim that TCs are the descendants of the Ottomans that came in 1571. Do those TCs that believe that they are mostly the descendants of the Ottomans feel the same connection with those ancient things as we do?

Personally I wouldn't separate myself from the native Cypriots that existed several thousand years ago. Greeks came to Cyprus, later on they intermixed with the native population, the Greek language and culture eventually prevailed because it was superior and here we are.

How do TCs feel? Have this separatist movements changed everything? Or some of them feel that GCs and TCs are basically the same thing, with the only difference that the second group at some point changed religion and eventually language and culture?

Digenis Akritas why don't u stop looking for ways to insult other members and try discussing something with arguments? If anything, this will give the moderators a break. Since u came in here, the only thing they do is edit your posts and many of the replies you receive. So please, do us all a favour...

Gabaston, may I ask from which village your family is? If you feel that my question is too "personal" then just don't worry about it.

EDITED for reason:quoted part removed. The remainder should be deleted for reason 6 ,but unfortunately it propagated.

Look D-A (short for your nick), all I did above was to offer you some friendly and free advice so that your views (whatever they are) can at least be considered by other members in the forum. So far I am afraid that this does not seem to be the case with you and your posts. Whether you choose to take it or not, this is 100% up to you.

My vote/ views regarding the UN plan and the referendum are irrelevant to all the above, but I have no problem discussing the issue with you under another thread, once of course you start demonstrating the ability to discuss.
