Basketball is a girls game in the UK called Netball; they learn to play it at primary school. same with Baseball; it's called Rounders in the UK. Most of the American NFL players aren't athletes, they are just big giant freaks who are put on the field to stop a couple of players; one who can run fast and catch a ball and the other one who can throw in a straight line. To be a decent baskeball player you have to be seven feet tall; on the other hand anyone can play football and at school level you don't have to be highly skilled or a freak to take part in a game. That is the reason why football is so popular and so many play the game whether it is just a kick about or in an official league. Love the Game.

Being the most popular game in the world (that is the bit outside the USA) and played by hundreds of millions, you can expect that 'the odd few will go off of the rails'.

OJ Simpson did a pretty good job in a very minor sport.
