SMALL WARS

Postby denizaksulu » Tue Apr 13, 2010 3:52 pm

i AM COOKING dolma/dolmades today. Having noticed that I ran out of grounded cinnamon, I went into town. I popped into W.H.Smith to get a paper when I was distracted by the title of a new (new to me) title on the shelves. It was called 'Small Wars'. I remembered home and decided to browse through it. Lo and behold, the sole topic was Cyprus during the Eoka years.

It is the story of a Brit soldier and his family who had moved to Cyprus (foolish move) during the fight of Cypriots against colonial rule. Even though it comes under fiction, I purchased it. It will make a good read I think.

Reading it I might laugh or cry, I do not know.

One or two of you might be interested.

The author is Sadie Jones, Pub by Vintage Books.

SMALL WARS for some, but not for Cypriots.

Flippin heck, I have a lot of wrapping up to do. My wife has done the clever thing; Gone with the Dog. Wimin for you

I read the (two) reviews on this some time ago and decided against it. It is basically a romance/failing marriage set against the backdrop of the EOKA years.

Not my cup of tea, I'm afraid, but would love to hear your take on it Deniz, so keep us posted. :D

Just finished my Dolmades. Phew. I cant wait till it cooks. The aroma is already causing my stomach to 'beat the drums'.

Small Wars; It will be interesting to see how they blend in fact and fiction. I have a good nose for tall tales, but it will be good to find out.

I doubt it will touch on Denktash and Yorgadjis 'alleged friendship'.
