No, Mesopotamia was the first civilization but as we all know the word Mesopotamia comes from Greek words so without Greeks it wouldn't exist. Also, Athens was the first (Western) real Civilization that laid the foundations for the Western World.

Actually...the area called 'Mesopotamia' gained it's name when Alexander the Great travelled there...and named it the land between the river.

The first civilization did exist in that area but they were people called the Hitites and were not Greek.

Also, the people who founded Athens were the Ionians...who settled there after emigrating from Asia Minor...some Ionians also settled in Cyprus too.
