3,000 TCs on the side of Trabzonspor!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Sorry VP, I cannot calm down yet...I'm still celebrating for the reason you mentioned beating an experienced team like Trb. :D

Of course Trb will deserve congratulations like any other team, don't you think? Especially after loosing 3-1 at the first game.
Anyhow, I believe both teams will do their best to get the tiket for the next round.

Lets hope that Anorthosis finishes the job in occupied Trapezounta

When a simple sports victory fuels such stupid nationalist flames I think it is a thousand times better for Anorthosis to have lost the match. We have lived through this a number of times over the last year. First it was the success of the Greek team in the Euro Cup then the success of some Greek athletes in the Olympics. One of them, called Fani something (probably loaded with anabolics) declared in all honesty after winning gold in the 400m hurdles "us Greeks are destined for the winners podium ..."

A good sportsperson shows sportsmanship and spiritual quality by respecting enormously the opponent. After all, the joy of winning would have been non existent without Tpapzospor. This is the essence of participating in sports, but try telling this to the thick heads.

I would agree with you that many things did not look nice during that game. All the wrong messages were send to the TC community, as a result of the picture that the spectators have projected and as a result of some comments by the media and some "political" figureheads. The issue of the number of Greek flags as opposed to the considerably less RoC flags in the stadium is the most profound one, as well as some slogans towards the end of the game.

I personally have felt as much sadness for this picture as it was the joy I felt for Anorthosis victory!

The supporters of Anorthosis, as well as the supporters of Apoel and Apollon who came to their side, are all well known for this attitude since this is what they do in every football match that takes place internally, as opposed to the supporters of Omonia and some other teams who choose to give all emphasis to the use of the RoC flag. The only political party that has the ability to exercise some influence on those fans, is the Dysi party -the contemporary pioneers of rapprochement between the two communities and the fervent supporters of the A-plan, which according to them was supposed to “re-unite” Cyprus. Can you tell me what have they done towards the direction of controlling or at least minimizing this more or less expected pathetic picture that the stands and many of the fans have projected, at least during this particular game? Absolutely nothing! To the contrary! Have you seen the discussion between MP Antonis Karas from Dysi and MP Cristodoulides from Akel, yesterday afternoon on CyBC lunchtime program? This discussion spoke by itself as to what happens in Cyprus in relation to this issue!

How sweet.

Im sure the Trabzonsopr supporters would agree!

Its a football match with a political twist.

I dont think Anorthosis will deliberately go to loose so as to improve relations between Cyprus and Turkey.

Let me remind you that Anorthisis's full name is Anorthosis Famagusta. They are a refugee team who have survived for over 30 years without being allowed to play at "home".

It wasnt just any win for them the other night, it was symbolic to the club and all their supporters.

It showed that you could defeat your "superior" opponent without resulting to violence.

P.S. What pissed me off was watching the highlights later that evening and when Anorthosis scored their first goal the greek-cypriot commentator shouted, "1-0 for Cyprus."

No my friend it was 1-0 to Anorthosis. The club is a credit to Cyprus football. They showed before, during and after the game that greek-cypriot and turkish-cypriot supporters can go to the same stadium, watch a game of football peacefully.

Politicians got us into this mess of the island being divided. The people will show them how to live peacefully together.

Whatever the result in Turkey, Anorthosis have already "won".

Allow me to doubt the truthness of your story. Tickets were pre - sold. The way they were pre - sold plus the 3 zones of Police checking outside the Stadium virtually excludes that possibility

This is the second time you have called me a liar and you are now beginning to irritate me. Firstly because your accusation is 100% false and secondly because you are smug and wrong - loads of TC's bought tickets for the GC part of the stadium - it was bloody easy. All you need to say is four tickets please in Greek and they sell you four tickets!

Anglo just to prove you are telling the truth I noticed this sentence in a Cyprus Mail article today;

Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots were sitting side-by-side in some areas of the stadium.”

MicAtCyp you are so quick to call people liars which you have done to me and no doubt others in the past as well,

If ur gonna quote me then do it fully. Dont take out bits that suit u. Problem is people see this as politics rather than a football game. My point is that common people have shown through this match that they can mingle without any problems.

Its only the polititions, u know these people who got the island divided in the first place, that look to make something out of it.

I, for one, did not expect any trouble in Nicosia. All the talk was of security and potential trouble. Note that the greek-cypriot and turkisk-cypriot supporters inside the GSP Stadium were only interested in a game of football.

What polititions cant do (unite the island) supporters can (unite the people).

All this talk about going to "Hell" next week is typical turkish bullshit. Just let the teams play and put the politics aside for one day.

Take a look at the teams the other night. A good, clean, competitive game played within the spirit of fair play. no trouble on the pitch, no trouble off it.

Praise from UEFA for the organization.
