"Turkish" yogurt. No such thing!

Well ... according to WiseGEEK (not to be confused with wise Greek)...

Historically, some of the first yogurt most likely consisted of goat’s milk that fermented in the goatskin bags carried by early nomadic people of Turkish origin. Today, yogurt is primarily made with cow’s milk in the United States, but around the world, it is also made with the milk of goats, sheep, buffalo, and even camels.

Wherever origins have occurred in an unrecorded manner, you can be sure the Turks lay claim. The very fact that yogurt was "discovered" and used in nearly every society and thousands of years even before the Turks banded together as tribes seems to be ignored.

Shut up Gassy you are too stupid to evaluate ..,

According to WikiAnswers ...

The word is derived from Turkish yoğurt, and is related to yoğurmak 'to knead' and yoğun 'dense' or 'thick'

"The word 'yoghurt'. In Arabuc it is called 'Iaban'; in Aremenia, 'madzoon' or 'matsun'; in Azerbaijan and Georgia, 'matsuni'; and finally in Iran it is 'mast'. Yougurt was introduced to Western Europe in the sixteenth century.

In 1931, the Armernian Colombosians family founded the first yogurt company in Massachusetts and called it Colombo. Although in America yogurt is considered a new product, it is one of the older foods known to mankind. Regional records of ancient civilizations from Egypt to Iran refer to the healthful properties of yogurt. Yogurt was probably discovered accidentally by a nomad long before people could write about it."

According to EU digest (your beloved EU!)

Turkey - The goodness of curd (Yogurt) first made in Turkey - by Mumtaz Khalid Ismail

Once thought of only as a worthy health food, curd or yogurt is now the base for tempting frozen desserts and is used as a healthier alternative to cream. The word yogurt is of Turkish Origin and is believed that the first curd was made in Turkey. People who cannot drink milk may find that they can tolerate curd. Universally cow's milk is used to make curd. But in India, buffalo milk is also used extensively and in Russia, the milk of sheep, goat and mare is largely used for the same purpose.
