Next week U.S. President Obama plans to present the United State’s new policy of nuclear disarmament, the The Times reports.
According to the daily, Obama is considering the withdrawal of nuclear weapons from NATO member states, including Turkey. Presently, the U.S. nuclear arsenal is based in Turkey, Belgium, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands, that is 200 B61 gravity bombs.
According to Hurriyet, 90 American nuclear bombs are stored in the Incirlik base in Turkey, 40 of them are controlled by the Turkish armed forces, and 50 by the U.S.
However, The Times notes that the decision should be made within NATO, as the alliance “is developing an updated strategic concept.”
