Ένωση και Λευτεριά (Union and Freedom)

Enosis (Greek: Ένωσις, meaning "union") refers to the movement of the Greek-Cypriot population to incorporate the island of Cyprus into Greece, a country which they considered their motherland (i.e country of origin).

Similar movements had previously developed in other regions with ethnic Greek majorities such as Crete and the Dodecanese. These regions were eventually incorporated into the Greek state.

The enosist movement was the natural outgrowth of national awareness among the ethnically Greek population of Cyprus (around 80% [1] between 1882 and 1960), coupled with the growth of the anti-colonial movement throughout the British empire after the Second World War.

The struggle was noble . We were a confident nation of people under British rule we looked to Greece as our motherland we did not have anyone else to look up to , our real identity was masked deprived from us , we did not even know that Cyprus had been offered by Britain to Greece and rejected , neither did we know that Turkey had in the 19th century offered Cyprus to Britain , rejected also.
Those days of not knowing who we were have now passed , we are now a proud nation , an independent one and quite capable of standing on our own feet , we do not need perceived motherlands we have one our Cyprus.
Long may the independent Cypriot spirit continue to thrive.

As a Turk, you have no rights to an opinion on the long fight EOKA suffered to free Cyprus of the British yoke.

We only need to rid ourselves of the Turkish yoke now ....
