Glory and honour to the heroes of EOKA!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

It was alleged that AKEL voted en bloc. Akel, then had TC members affiliated to them. It was alleged that the TCs had no idea where the votes were going or what they were for.

I think this was discussed a few years back on the forum with documentation.

Our O never forgets. 700 voted, but did they know the implication of the referandum. We need to find the old posts on the subject. Perhaps Bananiot has some links...............?

It was not a vote as such. There was only one option and you were asked to put your signature below. Andreas Ziartides told me that very few TC's singed the petition.

I voted to get Labour in to power last time. But did I know the "implications"? No! Because, Deniz, you cannot go back and re-write history to suit your new, retrospective, partitionist agenda!

Those men voted fair and square! :D

I repeat, nobody voted in the strict meaning of the term. Simply a petition was signed after Sunday church service.

If the 'TC's' voted after the 'service', they must have been 'Linobambakis' and not real TC's.

From the Hansard archives....

We all know about the plebiscite carefully organised under Archbishop Makarios in 1950, when two books were placed in the churches and the people were gathered in by special messengers: the priests urged them in, and they were made to come, and in public every citizen had to write either in one book or the other. In one book it said: "I am in favour of annexation by Greece." In the other it said: "I am not in favour." Funnily enough, 95 per cent. of the population voted in favour. I can only say that I express my great admiration for the 5 per cent. who risked their lives by voting against it. I can think of countries where the vote is 99.99 per cent. in those circumstances.
