I agree.!
If one is proud to be from Cyprus, then one can ONLY be a Cypriot. If the insecure and the unpatriotic Cypriots wants to add a label on themselves, then let them do it unofficially, but their official documents such as passports, MUST read ONLY as Cypriot..............PERIOD.!
The problem is not what we think we are,it is more what others see us as...I was at a social gathering last week. I was talking to some young Australian guys of mainland Greek background...We spoke in English of course but after a while one of them asked me what my origins was. I said Cypriot. He started speaking to me in Greek. I said I didnt speak Greek (not much anyway!) as I was a Turkish Cypriot..."Then you are not a Cypriot," he said, "you are a Turk"...I said,"No I am a Cypriot of Turkish background"...He said,"No you are a Turk..."I didn't see much point in continuing...I walked away but not before making my point,"Thank you",I said, "Your attitude sums up the Cyprus problem perfectly..."
Well, of course you are a Cypriot, Bir. The fact that you were dealing with an idiot, it's another matter. To make matters worse, you were dealing with a mainland Greek background.
He probably call GCs a "Turk" also.!
Unfortunately, since the TCs in the north started calling themselves "Turks of Cyprus", we have given plenty of ammunition to the racists and the bigots to call us "Turks" from here on. This also suits the Fascists on our side also. Some TCs very proudly cover themselves in the flag of Turkey, so slowly but surely the TC identity is being erased by the Fascists on our side as well as from the other side, whether we like it or not.
