"Turkey Unveiled" by Hugh Pope and his wife. Decent book but typical condescending attitute toward Turks.
"Ataturk" By Andrew Mango. By far the best modern biography of Ataturk.
"Sons of the Conquerors" Hugh Pope does a 180 and almost becomes a Turcophile.
I usually have 4 or 5 books on the go at once. I finished these in the last 2 months.
"Cyprus: Hostage to History" - Christopher Hitchens.
Hitchens' Book is without a doubt the best one available on the Cyprus problem.
"The Byzantine Empire" - Robert Browning.
A General overview of Byzantine History from the 5th Century AD to the 15th Century.
"A History of Byzantine State and Society" - Warren Treadgold.
Interesting study of the workings of Byzantine Government and wider Society itself. The parts about how the Byzantine Senate gradually became non-existent are interesting.
"The Making of the Roman Army: From Republic to Empire" - Lawrence Keppie.
Really interesting book on the evolution of Rome's Armies from Citizen to Professional based.
"A Concise History of Byzantium" - Warren Treadgold.
Good book on Constantinople and how it came to become the 'Centre of the World'.
"Prophet of Doom: Islam's Terrorist Dogma in Muhammad's Own Words" - Craig Winn.
Excellent book, exposes the Quran and the Hadiths.
"The Myth of Islamic Tolerance: How Islamic Law Treats Non-Muslims" - Robert Spencer.
A good study into Islamic Law, using Historical Examples of the Arab and Ottoman Caliphates as well as that detailed in the Quran itself.
