Well as we're all the same, can we take it we all aspire to All Being Equal?
This is the Italian Philip Mazzei writing 250 years ago,
"Tutti gli uomini sono per natura egualmente liberi e indipendenti. Quest'eguaglianza è necessaria per costituire un governo libero. Bisogna che ognuno sia uguale all'altro nel diritto naturale."
Here's the translation of what he writes above .....
"All men are by nature equally free and independent. Such equality is necessary in order to create a free government.
All men must be equal to each other in natural law"
Who the feck was Philip Mazzei some of you ask?
Well some of our American members may have heard of him. He corresponded with Thomas Jefferson and we all know what Jefferson wrote don't we? How Jefferson adapted Mazzei's words in the American Declaration Of Independence......
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.
Now isn't the above a worthy aspiration? A great and valuable contribution to debate on political systems. One that almost all of us benefit from in our daily lives?
So looking at the posts on the other thread with their fine tree-hugging aspirations, are we striving for a state of affairs based on "we are the same"? A system based on all people being the same and equal? Are are some heading towards a system which has sameness at its heart? Cos looks like some are proposing political systems and settlements, no matter how fine their motives, that are based on race, ethnicity, religion, foreign allegiance etc ...
