Well, actually the Romans crucified a Jew, but let's not get bogged down in detail.

Easter commemorates the resurection of Christ, following his crucifiction; the word 'easter' comes from the name of the Anglo Saxon God of Spring (Eastre, I think). We eat eggs because Christians regard them as the seed of life - but I prefer hot X buns!

You should change you avtar, as you are not a Greek Orthodox Christian, if you do not know the simple fact that Jesus was a Jew " when the Romans crucified Jesus, they wrote on his cross "Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews" “INRI”

Easter is a time of reflection and piety, thus the fasting. Most Cypriots will fast for holy week, some of the older generation fast for the full 40 days before easter.

On Saturday Christ was resurected, thus a time of celebration and feasting. The miracle of Christ was not his birth but his resurection, thus easter is the holiest of celebrations. Christ died for our sins.
