WE ARE ALL THE SAME !

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby IMPOSTALIEDUS » Fri Mar 26, 2010 6:36 pm

the uk might be a good example KNOW but you have to realise this has taken hundreds of years to get to where it is today... the majority of welsh spoke thier mother tongue untill the english managed to get the welsh ashamed of thier own language (only peasants speak welsh) type of comment .the media is all english based .i think one of the biggest problem cyprus has at the moment is two distict languages. which separates and catogorieses ;;religeon should not be an issue.what about a new language or english as the national language

From this post forth I shall now no longer refer to Turkish Cypriots as TC's but rather NC's (northern CYPRIOTS)
and also GC's as SC's (Southern CYPRIOTS).
To label Cypriot citizens a foreign ethnicity is wrong and also an insult.
I'm tired of this Greece vs Turkey hogwash. Sort your own problems out.
We've been independent for 50 years, its time to take care of our own affairs.
Greece and Turkey are not ideal nations to look up to or identify with or even relate to.
Although they do have their good points, those should be the only points we adopt and incorporate.
I've had enough of this nationalistic bu**shit been fed to us by the 'motherlands'.
Yeah right, Cyprus is CYPRIOT. it belongs to US. You were NOT born in either T**** or G****, you were born on this Island,
or at least your parents were. We fought together for independence against the British, we won it in 1960, and ever since then we've been played for a bunch of gullible idiots from those very same 'super powers' that led to our downfall, because they all wanted a hand in our country's important geographical position.
I say, fu** em all and fu**ing no regrets. WE pull the strings, this is OUR country.
We have the power... and like the saying goes... UNITED we stand, Divided we fall.

Arent you creating a whole new problem in Cyprus if you try to strip the two communities of the ethnicity they choose? Why cant there be a a third language of English? If the people want to consider themselves Greek or Turkish in origin...so what? I dont believe the nationalist from from both sides will have the influence they had in the 50's/60's, the world i hope has changed since then....Fifty years is a long time, I would compare the differences in mentalities, from back then to the changes in thinking when humanity progressed from the horse and buggie to walking on the moon and the internet....thats how dramatic these past 50 years have been,,,,A small minority from both sides still have the mentality of of moving in a horse and buggy while chatting on the internet......

Quite well put.
Greece and Turkey are not ideal nations to look up to or identify with or even relate to.

Quite! And especially as there seem to be many Greeks (from what I glean from 'Greek' internet forums) who have no time at all for Cyprus or Cypriots some of them seem to despise Cypriots.

And it is said again and again that Turkey has no love for TCs.

Lets see now , on this forum alone I have met at least half a dozen T/Cs and same number of G/Cs as well as some British Cypriots .
All have exactly the same needs and wants all aspire for the ultimate goal that is to see a permanent solution to the Cyprob with fairness and justice for all and without the fear that another conflict would erupt some time in the future.
A T/C naturally would support his community and so would a G/C but the true Cypriots that see only Cypriot and not Greek or Turkish would be more than likely to support what is fair and just not because it serves the interests of his community to the detriment of the other community but because its fair .
Having been on the forum for four years I have had many altercations involving a number of both G/Cs and T/Cs when debating "controversial " issues .
We are all susceptible to arbitrary views on matters affecting preconceived notions filled with prejudices , some of us who have managed to ditch the most dominant of all sectarian issues , ie the erroneous and damaging ideology concerning our true motherlands have seen our outlook towards our compatriots radically change , we no longer see majorities , minorities or divisions but aspire for a united Cyprus equally belonging to all true Cypriots.
A T/C father feels the pain of losing a child just as much as a G/C parent does . Lets concentrate on issues that unite our people and not divide .

How about a uniting constitution? :)

I feel I ought to write a few lines concerning a real life event involving an English lady whom I have known for more than 35 years. A English lady that I have always admired and respected for her values of life , her loyalty to her husband and her devotion to her children. I first met , here I will use a pseudonym since I do not have her permission to use her real name so I will call her Janet , way back in the late 70s before marrying her devoted husband when the two were courting and they would visit my brothers restaurant. I knew Metin , not his real name , from early 1970 and got on extremely well , two Cypriots one a G/C one a T/C , we naturally argued and debated a great deal but I always liked the man and he reciprocated .
Way back in late November last year Metin and Janet , who have retired in Kyrenia heard about the loss of my wife from Iceman who already knew of my lengthy friendship with them both , they were due to visit London late November and promptly paid me a visit to express their condolences .We talked about cancer and that I in a small way raise tiny sums for Cancer Tulip in Nicosia , promptly Metin gave me a donation , I still haven passed it on but will do so on my next visit.
A few days ago I had an email from Iceman informing me that Metin and Janet were in London in view of Janet being diagnosed with cancer . I was devastated , I somehow thought that my bloody showroom had the jinks !!
I spoke to Metin today , he was with Janet at the Royal Marsden where she was receiving chemotherapy , he naturally was devastated and talking to me and knowing what I went through he felt somehow a little better. We promised to meet early next week subject to Janet's condition.
The moral of the story , two Cypriots , English wives , friends for so many years nothing to divide us and everything to unite us.
Metin , a successful business man has confided in me that he wishes to donate a very serious sum of money to Cancer Tulip ...
I wish Janet my very best wishes with her battle and I promise Metin that I shall always be there for him , I have been through the emotional turmoil and I know the pain and anguish only too well

by both comunities taking english as the national language you are not losing your i d but you are getting away from the hold that the two powers have over you . you are becoming a cypriot not a gc or tc or from now on a sc or nc

Since you are so fanatic about nationalist Cypriots why do you refer to the lady in your post as English and not British ?
