Did you mean to say 'put a stop to' this?
Because it is no use asking for 'none of' something that has ALREADY happened (and is continuing to happen) on a very wide scale is it?
It's been happening for many years. Perhaps if more GCs had protested more loudly about it from the beginning, more 'prospective' foreign purchasers (because it isn't just Brits - though it does seem to be mainly Brits I agree) would have been 'scared off' and it would never have reached the proportions it has now.
The Orams losing their last appeal certainly had a dramatic effect on the property market in the TRNC.
Just as this latest ECHR ruling seems to have given them the 'green light' again.
It's said that the issue of property is being left to last with the two leaders in the talks. Yet it seems to be the most IMPORTANT and most DIFFICULT one for them to get agreement on.
It certainly cannot be dismissed or dealt with by just saying 'none of this selling off our houses'.
Even if they stopped right now (and they show no signs of doing that), there would have to be a mutually acceptable decision come to about what is going to happen about not just the GC houses that have been sold off, but all the thousands and thousands of new builds that have sprung up on GC owned land where there were previously NO houses.
That is probably why they left it to last,Gasman...
I believe that if politics is left out of it,it shouldn't be too difficult to come to an agreement which will satisfy most of the people involved...For example, those people who want to return to live in their old homes should be given their homes back as a priority...You will find that after so many years most people would prefer to stay put...They should be offered appropriate compensation for their properties...With a bit of good will and common sense the property issue could be resolved without too much difficulty...It is percieved to be difficult simply because people think in political terms...Both sides are trying to score points off each other...All we need is to establish some simple priorities and guidelines as I mentioned above, and the rest will fall into place...But in Cyprus there is little goodwill, and common sense is not very common...That is the real problem...
