TRNC PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION COUNTDOWN

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

It is still boiling from within, like a volcano,
It will resurface again and again and again.
Untill it succeeds.

-Do not worry sir, but please do not expect too much from us. We are all Kouroupettoi.

I still see Gregoris and I even attended his wedding service. We always have a laugh when we remember his words.

If only those with learning difficulties on CF were half as polite and sensible as your Gregoris... :) We might even get to like them a bit!!! :D

What does kouroupettoi mean??? Is it something like Tahtakafa(Wooden head)???

Kouroupettoi is the plural for kouroupettos (a nick used by one of our forum bash patriots). Many times I asked him to stop behaving like one but he never really understood what I was saying and I didn't want to spell it out for him. Best to leave pupils work out things for themselves.

Etymologically kouroupettos is probably from the Turkish kurk and bet. Kurk is empty, dry and bet is ugly. Correct me if I am wrong. In the Cypriot dialect kouroupettos is someone who is marginal and of insignificant intellect (that is why he should stop behaving like one. Using the nick is ok, but behaving like one is not accepted).

Who do you think the 51% were Deniz? Be precise so there is no possibility of a misunderstanding.

I referred to people in the north, which you seemed to disagree with. If there are no people in the north, then the only living beings worth mentioning are the donkeys. Dont tell me there arte no donkeys either.

If I remember right you once had a sense of humour. I must have been wrong.

kouroupetos comes from the Turkish word gurbet. I think it means a foreigner or from a strange land or something.

being of a slight xenophobic nature we've given it a negative meaning and now mean someone who is messy looking/ asistaristos

Last year there was a thread referring to Gypsies, and another word which meant a Gypsy(wanderer) was something similar to 'Gurbetci')

Speaking during the visits, Mr. Eroglu said that the TRNC people will soon go to the polls for the Presidential elections which he described as very important.

Noting that the future of the state and the TRNC people are being negotiated at the table, he said “therefore, the candidate who will make it possible for the people to live under the roof of the Turkish Republic of Northern should sit at the table”.

He stressed the need to show to the world that the Turks of Cyprus is a sovereign community and said “nothing can be achieved at the talks if the person who sits at the table does not believe in sovereignty”.

“It will become easier to reach an agreement if our sovereignty is accepted” the Premier noted.
