TRNC PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION COUNTDOWN

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby halil » Fri Mar 26, 2010 1:31 pm

President Mehmet Ali Talat has said that the TRNC citizens attach importance to the lifting of international isolation to unite with the rest of the world.

Talat was in the Lefke Region as part of his election campaign.

During his tour of the region, the President came together with citizens at coffee shops where he listened to their views and problems.

Mr Talat told BRT that during the visit, he observed that the citizens attach importance to the lifting of the isolation to unite with the world.

He said that the process to unite with the world is important for the conclusion of the Cyprus negotiation process with success.

EROĞLU was at Dilekkaya:The Prime Minister, who visited the Dilekkaya village as part of his election campaign yesterday, said “once you don’t have sovereignty, you become a minority”.

Speaking to the villagers who gathered at the village square, Mr Eroglu said that the two sides in Cyprus have been perceiving the principle of political equality in different ways and criticized President Talat for failing to make the Cyprus Turkish perception clear to the Greek Cypriot Side.

`For Greek Cypriots, political equality is the equality of individuals, as being enjoyed by Maronites and Armenians living on the island but for us, it is the equality of communities, the equality of rights. A person who refrains from making this issue clear cannot defend the rights of the Cyprus Turkish people` he said.

Describing the upcoming Presidential elections as historic, he stressed that the election result will reflect the political will of the Cyprus Turkish People who applauded the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

`But, if this objective is not realized, the process will also be useful for the lifting of the isolations`, he added.

The President noted that he was pleased to see that the citizens are also aware of the European Court of Human Rights’ ruling recognizing the Property Immovable Committee in the TRNC as a domestic remedy for Greek Cypriot property claims, adding that the importance of the acceptance of Turkish Cypriots thesis has been understood.

Rauf Denktash:

Rauf Denktash has accused the Greek Cypriot Side of lacking the will to settle the Cyprus problem and said that the Cyprus Turkish Side should absolutely not agree to any concession on sovereignty. Mr Denktash told BRT that the Greek Cypriot Side does not only want to remove the TRNC flag on the Besparmak Mountains but also the sovereignty of the Cyprus Turkish People and the Turkish troops on the island.

The former President said that almost 80% of the Cyprus Turkish People is in support of sovereignty and the state.

Referring to April’s Presidential Elections, Denktash said he has been backing Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu because of his support to the state and sovereignty.
Reminding that Mr Eroglu has promised to inform the people on course of the negotiation process, he said this is another important difference between him and other candidates.

Palio ,
I don't support the Eroğlu but in here he said what the great majority of Turkish Cypriots are thinking

''For Greek Cypriots, political equality is the equality of individuals, as being enjoyed by Maronites and Armenians living on the island but for us, it is the equality of communities, the equality of rights.''

Equality of Communities, Equality of Rights .

Outside of Cyprus, it would sound as if your fighting for gay or swinger rights with your nonsense issues.

Any Greek Cypriot with an ounce of sense would be rooting for Talat.

Palio, I did not refer to numerical support. Usually, as you probably know, people with any sense in this corner of the earth, make up the minority, or at best, the silent majority.

GC's who want solution (sadly probably a minority by now) are rooting for Talat, because he is our best hope. Those who do not want solution are secretly (and some openly) praying for Eroglu, just as they did for Denktash some years ago.
