Zeki Beşiktepeli

Zeki Beşiktepeli is an independent canditate for the presidential elections which will take place in so called ''TRNC''. Zeki Beşiktepeli claims that, he is not running for presidency but his main aim is to be the representatives of Turkish Cypriots in Cyprus.

Support for Zeki Beşiktepeli is to be said very powerful and the major support is coming from the Jasmine Movement (Yasemin Hareketi)...

I am afraid that he will probably get his usual 1-2% of the vote.

‘WE SHOULD AVOID PAST POLICIES’

“We should avoid the non-solutionist policies of the past and seek integration with the world” President Mehmet Ali Talat has said. The President addressed the public yesterday during visits to villages around Gazimagusa(Famagusta) as part of his election campaign. Talat said that this month’s presidential elections will have a vital role in shaping the future of the Turkish Cypriot People.
On the negotiations process, the President denied claims over the failure of progress.

Meanwhile, the presidential sources have said that President Talat took a new initiative to accelerate the reintroduction as well as the implementation of the EU Direct Trade Regulation introduced for the Turkish Cypriots.

The President spoke over the phone with the EU term-president Spain’s Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, the Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, the Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Fule, EP Vice-President Libor Roucek and the Chairman of the EP Socialist Group Martin Schulz asking support for the immediate implementation of the regulation.

The EU will re-consider the implementation of the regulation this month.
On the other hand, President Mehmet Ali Talat and the Turkish Cypriots negotiations team have held a press conference to provide detailed information over the course of comprehensive peace talks launched in September 2008.

The content of issues of convergence and disagreement has been publicized at the conference.

UBP GAZIMAGUSA DISTRICT HOSTS ANNUAL BALL

The Prime Minister – the leader of the National Unity Party and Presidential candidate Dervis Eroglu has said that the Turks of Cyprus who for years have been waging a struggle to exist freely in Cyprus will not make concessions just to reach a settlement.

He said that the Greek Cypriot Side should not get its hopes high about the concessions the Turkish Side will make for a solution.

Speaking at the annual ball organized by the UBP’s Gazimagusa District (Famagusta) office, Prime Minister Eroglu said that public opinion polls showed that he will be winning the upcoming Presidential elections from the first round.

Eroglu vowed to protect the interests of the Cyprus Turks at the negotiating table and to get the international community to acknowledge the just cause of the Turks of Cyprus.

Explaining that the Turks of Cyprus have been forced to flee their homes several times throughout their history, the Prime Minister said that, if elected as President, he will fight at the negotiating table to make sure that the Cyprus Turks will never have to leave their homes.

He also said that he will adopt a more pluralist approach concerning the talks by creating a national council consisting of political parties in the Republic’s Assembly.
