Bible Search for Greeks on or anywhere near Cyprus!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

If Mycenaeans colonized Cyprus at around 1300BC, then SURELY they would’ve made some of the news! :?

Your argument is weak my friend, you have not proven anything yet, nevertheless, the Greek cyps still speak Greek, and from our cypriot dialect one can see that there are lots of koine tenses and conjugation of verbs that were spoken thousands of years ago....My idea would be if you really wanted to convince me, what rituals or superstitions, or something to tht effect that diferentiate the Cypriot from the Greek..I think you may be going at this too directly, and you are misfiring....Lots of customs and rituals that we have in Cyprus can be found throughout Greece. Im not a historic scholar but i do notice certain details that are around...especially with the Cretans and people from Rhodes.....Im sorry but a passage from the bible mentioning Cypriots instead of Greeks doesnt convince me, Corinthians, Thesallians are they referred to as being Greek, i dont remember them being mentioned as Greeks either.....

You can stick your Byzantine symbol up your bum.

This double headed eagle does not represent ALL Cypriots like me!

One head doesn't seem to know what the other is doing. It is like an eternal tug of war, which has resulted in the weak becoming very delusional!

Oh dear, I appear to have hit a nerve with the aphroditist.

Don't worry Paphits, I never presumed it represents all Cypriots, in particular the TCs.

Its a pretty cool symbol though ...

Naturally, it would be a pretty cool symbol for foreign imperialists!

Happily, the Byzantine Empire is no more, and so we Aphroditists don't need to suffer their tyrannical and imperial rule! :D

Precisely Deniz.

The natives of Cyprus were referred to as "men of Cyprus" ... just like the natives of Athens were referred to as "men of Athens" :D Id est it was taken for granted who were and who were not natives.

This Levite was not Greek, therefore he was referred to as a "Levite of Cyprus".

At least someone is beginning to get it, even if he is a Turk of Cyprus! :D

What I also find interesting is the difference in the language of today and in the yesteryears. The study of Classical Greek or rather the Greek language of those Palestinians/Judeans/Cyprians would be a must for the true understanding of what the bible says. Then what do the other languages say?...meaning the original language of the bible. That was Hebrew, was it not? Any Hebrew scholars?

The New Testament was written in Greek, Deniz. Not Hebrew!

@ Malapappa

Just to reiterate some points over which you remained ignorant. Now confirmed and double-checked ... :D

There was no word in Ancient Greek for "Cypriot" ... zero. Not used!

These were the descriptors used:

Κύπριος ...... of Cyprus
Κύπρονδε ........ to Cyprus
Κύπρος ........ Cyprus
Κυπρόθεν ........ from Cyprus
Κυπρογενής ..... the Cyprusborn

So your Levite was born of Cyprus and was not termed "Cypriot".

No need to turn to the Bible to find out if Cypriots are Greeks. If March 25th is a public holiday where you live, then you know!
