Is this a first, Halil? Could it mean a softening of attitudes from the clergy, do you think?

No he is not "softening" his attitude and he did NOT go to visit the "TRNC" but to visit the entrapped Greek Cypriots who are being deprived of their freedom by the Turkish occupation of their and our land!

Typical TC behaviour, any goodwill gesture or compromise made by the GCs (of which the TCs have made none to date) is seen as softening.

Time we changed to a harderline in case this think they have one up on us.

The Archbishop must have been on drugs when he visited as his brain was dis-engaged.

NICOSIA - Archbishop Chrysostomos today crossed over to the occupied areas for a visit to Apostolos Andreas Monastery at the tip of the Karpass peninsula.

It follows a letter which the Archbishop sent to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan asking for the go-ahead to be given for urgent repairs to the neglected monastery.

It is the first time since the Turkish invasion in 1974 that the Cypriot Archbishop has made his way to the part of the island still under Turkish military occupation.

Archbishop Chrysostomos passed through the Ayios Dometios checkpoint at 8am without showing any papers or stopping for control, as were his terms for making the trip.

He has already made a stop at the monastery of St Barnabas, the founder of the independent Cypriot Orthodox Church. The Cypriot prelate was met at the monastery by the so-called Tourism Minister of the occupation regime Ersan Cianer, who will also accompany them to Apostolos Andreas Monastery.

In statements before the visit, the Archbishop said that beside the request for the repair of the monastery he will hand a note concerning the state of all the places of Christian worship in the north.

He also said that he hoped to meet Prime Minister Erdogan during a visit to the Orthodox Patriarchate in the middle of April.

His only interest is for the restoration of Apostle Andreas to commence.
