Compromises From Turkey

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Gasman » Sun Mar 21, 2010 11:04 am

Cyprus, which belongs to Europe

Really? :D

Cyprus is in the EU. It doesn't form part of 'Europe'.

Just as there are countries that do form part of Europe but are not in the EU.

If the 2004 vote had been "Yes", Guzelyurt and Varosha would have returned and thousands of TR troops and settlers would have left by now.

Now you whinge because this is mostly no longer the case.

The fact that the Annan plan created aparteid in Cyprus, which belongs to Europe, was a major issue you neglect to mention, also there has not been any sense of goodwill on the part of Turkey, would the troops have been removed? Oh one more thing The Treaty of Lausanne promised the refugees of Smyrna reparations for their lost properties which were issued in a bond by the government of Turkey, which have never been honored.

The EU has never had any issues with TR other than its aspirations for ascession. TR has been urged to remove its troops time and time again by many including EU. TR has never before now, put this forward as an option. The TR gov now says it will withdraw troops after a satisfactory solution. You obviously don't trust them to do this, but they have the EU to satisfy now, so I doubt they would make promises they had no intention of keeping (unlike the EUs to TRNC).

Here's a list of what's been agreed at the talks, given that nothing is agreed until everything is agreed...............

You can vote how you wish but have to understand that a second no will have consequencies.
