How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

safe enough to leave your car unlocked.

That's somewhat disingenuous. Theft of cars is comparitively low in the north because motors are highly visible, it's a small place with many informers and the police detection rate is good.

But other offences of dishonesty such as housebreaking, fraud, theft and robbery - especially in expat areas - is high. The place is also awash with illegal firearms, drugs, dirty money, people trafficking, prostitution, smuggling, corruption and extortion. I hear this from the cops and officials themselves. Don't expect any figures because they don't provide them.

That's what you get when you have a police force that's part of the Turkish army. The fact that the Turkish Cypriots don't even have a say in their own police service is outrageous.

i can leave mine unlocked too and one of my cars i never lock it Eric, but what i meant is years ago we where able to leave the keys in the car window down all the way and no one would take it.. now its just not that safe to be able to do so

and that we should put higher security in the banks so idiots dont walk in with a knife and take all their money. in a perfect world we would all be able to leave a 500 euro note sitting outside and no one would take it but we need more security for our banks when will they learn to put bullet proof glass

Perhaps the fact that they’re not worth robbing has something to do with it…

Could have something to do with the fact that there is a Turkish soldier for every 2-3 adults?

Eric, sounds like you've been playing too much Grand Theft Auto. Household theft yes, but shootings - how often do you hear about that? Last couple of Cypriot stories that grabbed my attention were grave robbing for extortion and a hit on a Media mogul.
Get off that high horse of yours, its so high that the lack of oxygen is severely affecting your ability to think before writing down your thoughts.
