Prince Philip in strip tease gaffe at Navy sea cadet
By Richard Smith 12/03/2010
Gaffe-prone Prince Philip was nearly in hot water again yesterday after asking a young Navy sea cadet if she worked in a strip club.
The Duke, 88, made the "joke" after asking Elizabeth Rendle about her job.
Barmaid Elizabeth, 24, revealed: "I told him I worked in a club. He then asked if it was a strip club - then he said it was too cold anyway.
"I don't think he put his foot in it, it was a joke and I didn't take offence. He was just putting people at ease."
Phillip was touring Devon with the Queen when he made the remark at the Wyvern Barracks in Exeter.
He is famous for his close to the knuckle comments, and once asked a driving instructor in Oban, Scotland: "How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to pass the test?"
The Royal couple also visited the Wrigley gum factory in Plymouth yesterday - which was opened by the Duke 38 years ago.
