Anglisidhes when it was a mixed village

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Anglisidhes when it was a mixed village

Postby Tim Drayton » Fri Mar 12, 2010 10:34 am

Last night's bicommunal Biz/Emeis programme on CyBC included an interview with some elderly Greek Cypriot residents of Anglisidhes village in Larnaca district in which they spoke of the days in which this was a mixed village. I thought this would be of interest to one particular highly respected member of this forum, and perhaps to other people as well. The interviews are in Greek, with Turkish subtitles, except for one interviewee who switched to Turkish in the course of the interview, and the subtitles are then in Greek.

You can find this episode of Biz/Emeis at:

http://www.cybc.com.cy/index.php?option ... Itemid=132

You will need to select the episode dated 11/03/2010, and wait for the second item.

Thanks Tim.

I will watch this when I have peace and quite.

It will be nice to see familiar faces (albeit aged) again.

My comments fill follow later.

I have passed through this village several times and think it is a lovely place.

You must have passed through Pano Anglisidhes. Turn southwards at the junction and you reach Kato Anglissidhes. That was the mixed one. Pano was completely Greek speaking.

Oh. I did not know that there was a Pano and Kato.

Pano A, is on the high ground on the chalk hills. At the junction, where there is a large shop selling engineering and other hardware, is built on my land. The adjacent land too, is mine. Originally there was an INN there. In 1963, it was already in ruins.

Wish I could watch that episode but unfortunately have neither good Greek nor Turkish. When staying in Kyrenia last year, I saw a very interesting and quite long TV programme where a very old TC man tirelessly walked all round Old Limassol with a camera crew following him, pointing out all the old TC buildings and reporting on what they were being used for now/how they had changed etc. Don't know if it was shown over here.
He drew lots of attention from onlookers but there appeared to be no trouble or bother at all. I couldn't help wondering what would happen if a GC were to take a Camera crew with them and do the same thing in the North?

Tim, I watched a few of the episodes around the Biz/emeis series. The one you mentioned begins, when they go to the school for the interview it stops. There is a black screen and I waited as you said. I waited ...and waited and....waite.......

Can you please test it where you are and re post that link (I suspect GR has censored it  ).

The other ones are also good and many thanks.
