The United Nation Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon’s Special Advisor for Cyprus Alexander Downer is continuing his visits to non-governmental organization in the Republic.
Today, Mr. Downer visited the Bay-Sen, the authorized union representing the staff at Bayrak Radio Television Corporation.
Speaking during the visit, the BAY-SEN General Secretary Salih Sakalli said that the Union is closely watching the Cyprus negotiations process.
Mr Sakalli said that the Greek Cypriot resolution rejecting guarantor rights on the island is another proof of the Greek Cypriot Side’s unwillingness to bring a solution to the problem.
He also voiced the Union’s support to a two-state solution, which is to be based on a bi-communal bi-zonal order and political equality of the two sides, maintaining Turkey’s position as a guarantor power.
For his part, Mr. Downer said that the United Nations is determined to help bring about a federal solution that is to be based on a bi communal bi zonal order and that is to have a single international identity. He said `it is possible to settle the Cyprus problem and the UN will do its best to achieve this objective`.
