How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Why not? After all today is April Fools day.

..and here you are, our very own April fool!

It would need a fool to waste their time objecting. Let me know how you get on.

VW , You seem to think that Britain would defy and ignore an official RoC request to vacate the bases . I think you are very wrong. A Protracted RoC campaign to have the bases removed would not fall in deaf ears given the state of the UK at the moment.
Britain has , by virtue of her neglect of her guarantor rights as per the Zurich agreements , broken the contract and rendered it void , all the RoC has to do would be an official request . I personally support the continuation of the British bases but under new agreements negotiated with the sovereign power of the entire island the RoC .

Milti you are pro yank right? So long as the yanks say stay, she will not budge anywhere, you should know how the world order works, surely?

It will be interesting if and when China is top dog.

I thought economically they were, no?

Will they be politically, too, one day?

Underlying all this is the question: Who cares? If America loses its position as the world’s largest and most powerful economy does it really matter? The country's national pride would take a blow. And perhaps there are geopolitical reasons for wanting to hang on to the top spot. But, economically speaking, it probably wouldn't be so bad. Often when it comes to growth and globalisation, a high tide raises all boats. For example, the quality of life today is far better for most Britons than it was a century ago, when it was the world’s leading empire. Britain’s economy still grew even as America’s topped it.

So long as growth continues and successive generations of Americans live better than the last, does it really matter that someone else is getting even richer?
