British bases must go - EU standards violated.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Why not? After all today is April Fools day.

..and here you are, our very own April fool!

It would need a fool to waste their time objecting. Let me know how you get on.

VW , You seem to think that Britain would defy and ignore an official RoC request to vacate the bases . I think you are very wrong. A Protracted RoC campaign to have the bases removed would not fall in deaf ears given the state of the UK at the moment.
Britain has , by virtue of her neglect of her guarantor rights as per the Zurich agreements , broken the contract and rendered it void , all the RoC has to do would be an official request . I personally support the continuation of the British bases but under new agreements negotiated with the sovereign power of the entire island the RoC .

Has anyone thought what the situation today would be if the British hadn't have taken over Cyprus from the Turks; would you be arguing over SBA's with the Turks or would Cyprus still be another province of Turkey?

The British did eradicate Maleria from Cyprus; especially in Nicosia which was surrounded by Malerial Swamps. That in itself was a major step forward for Cyprus.
They also set up the Land Registry which is now used as the basis for property claims against the Turks.

Well, why do you think the RoC aren't doing that then?

I don't support to keep the SBAs, sorry Miltiades. I am surprised you do.

The first step would be the dismantle and surrender of Dhekelia. Soon after that, the Akrotiri should be reduced to a reasonable size. All this under a new agreement with RoC. The Brits must realize, they are in a foreign country and should see themselves as guests, not landlords.

The term "Sovereign" to be deleted... RoC is the sovereign state for the whole of Cyprus.

BTW, UK must pay back rent since 1964, approx 1 billion Euros plus interest.
