Din-Gör-Sen Başkanı Mehmet Dere, hafta içerisinde yerel bir basın organında Lefkoşa’da Protestan papazlar tarafından bazı evlerde vaaz verildiği ve ibadet yaptırıldığı iddiaları hakkında basın açıklaması yaptı.
KKTC’de yasalar çerçevesinde herkesin her kesimin inançlarını inandığı şekilde yaşamasından yana olduklarını belirten Dere, “Ancak, her geçen gün ülkemizde yaygınlaşan ‘Kilise Evleri’nin kamuoyu ve ülkemizin yetkili makamları tarafından sorgulanmasını istiyoruz!” dedi.

Rough translation:

Someone called Mehmet Dere has given a press release regarding news that some Protestant priests have been using private houses as places of worship.
Where-as he states that there is religious freedom in the so called 'trnc', these 'church houses' which are increasing day-by-day, should be investigated by the authorities.

Is this another step towards the 'Turkification' of the north? The way I see it it has nothing to do with the authorities ffs. These people simply move from house to house each week for services. Does anyone think that they would be allowed to build thier own Protestant church?

I hope the authorities have better sense and ignore this mans attempts.

Din-Gor-Sen translates as 'The Union of Religious 'Workers''. So he is a trade unionist. What ever next? Probably a setler to boot.

I'm not sure who the congregation are supposed to be. TRs are muslims, GCs are GO, so it only leaves the ex-pats and they have St. Andrews church to attend, by the castle, or the catholic church in Girne. Can't really see the need for these visiting priests.

I dont know who they are but havent these people (the Union guy) got anything better to do? What harm will they do. Moslem Turkish Cypriots often have their religious gatherings... so what?

The guy is obviously a karasakali, and I think he has got the wrong end of the stick, somehow.
As for moslem TCs having their religious gatherings, they aren't the most devout moslems you'd ever meet.

I know they are not thast re3ligious, but they still have their 'MEVLIT' and mevlud-u Sherif' at home to commemorate their beloved ones and the Prophet.

You did mention the setler, that was my main gripe. As I said, I hope the authorities ignore the man.

Some of the Hojas are a bit OTT, but they don't carry a lot a weight with the TCs.

I was treated VERY frostily when I asked a few pertinent questions of the 'proprietors' of the cafe above/adjacent to/sprawling in front of the ancient Church of the Holy Cave!

And had an armed soldier running alongside my car shouting OI! OI! OI! when I (VERY STUPIDLY, VERY, VERY, STUPIDLY) failed to stop at the Aye Nick border crossing lol! Oh lordy, my passenger, a very nervous type visiting from the UK, nearly DIED of fright!

No. That was the devil toying with them. The ECHR's decision makes no reference to the illegally sold properties! Those criminals still face the same punishment without the mere delay imposed by the ECHR just to free up their books. :D

I knew sooner or later EU would realise what a cockup they made of the orams' case correct it one way or another.

The ECHR's jurisdiction is the 47 member states of the Council of Europe (including Turkey) and not the EU.

The ECJ is the highest court in the EU.
