There is no international classification for hotel ratings.

I believe it is down to holiday companies, whose valuations are different..

Always amuses me when people talk of 'British enclaves' here. They were created by the Cypriot owners and developers.

Much the same as the West Country Folk who complain about the Spanish and other 'foreigners' - it was West Country Fishermen who sold them their boats.

And those who complain about the 'weekenders' who are killing off the heart and soul of many small villages. Again, locals who sold them their properties - reaping much more money for them than they could have if they'd been restricted to selling them to 'locals'.

The star ratings in Cyprus are related to the facilities that an establishment has and is governed by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation. It does not reflect what the service is like there, but more how many swimming pools a place has.

I t is about time that the Cypriot people faced the truth. The supermarkets are ripping them off and the silly sods still support them of some stupid nationalistic ...pride. Many basics cost twice that of the UK , bread for instance , a bloody joke , so too is milk , cheese , eggs and from personal experience ...baby nappies . Just as the airport shops and restaurants are a ripoff so are the supermarkets. They pay their staff peanuts and must be making a mint.
Liddl with more than 5000 sites Eurowide offers value for money , their food is ok , their fresh chickens a real value for money , items such as ham , parma and smoked salmon are first class .
Its time that the RoC faces these supermarket bosses and snaps their wings , it appears to me that one particular family runs the economy of Cyprus.
Wake up people , dont let the bastards get your hard earned dosh . Go to Liddl when open !!

I would enjoy driving to Paphos to shop at Lidl. Hope they soon open one on the Eastern side.

Both Paralimni and Larnaca,s are up built and waiting for stock Limassols is under construction opening day has been rumoured to be March but since we have heard they want to open all together which may be later now

Good news for consumers in Cyprus and not before time, opening discounted stores in a recession a sure fire way to build up a strong customer base who are led to believe the prices they have to currently pay for food at least is 'because of importing and shipping costs' is total bull

The new discounted UK owned food enterprises opened in the last six months in the east have barely had to advertise, they are so busy. Why buy expensive when you can buy equally good if not better products cheaper. To pay €2 for village bread is stupid so like many I use the internet to buy cheaper electrical items sent to Cyprus and bought a decent breadmaker and make my own. If I had,nt been charged such greedy prices I would,nt have even thought about it, now I need a cow anyone knows where I can get one cheap?

For instance the price of ice-cream here for crap brands even is stupid, I love the bakeries ice-cream they are fab but €12 for a litre is greed. So again bought an ice cream maker and make my own, if I carry on living in Cyprus I will be able to add to a growing list of self suffiency.

This is,nt about being cheap though its paying sky high prices for basics which is unknown in other countries, when you wake up and realise you are a captive audience being ripped off maybe you will all do something about it, till then pay your silly prices the rest of us will enjoy our extra fun money instead.

Well said Milo and gasman,I too am doing the same and my bread and icecream are superb.Miltiades also speaks common sense and thinks the same as most reasonable people.CBBB,whoever in Peyia made you so hateful against a whole nation of people? It makes my blood run cold the hate you show to decent people who worked hard all their lives and invested in a country who seems to now hate them.Local greed made Peyia what it is now,if the mayor at the time had refused planning for the concrete jungles instead of lining his pocket,we would not have had anything to buy in the first place! There are some british people who I dont want to mix with but that is personal choice it is not based on hatred,so get some counselling and learn that not all people are the same.

B 25 so your from around the paralimni area?? interesting......

Do I have to be from Paralimni to know what goes on there??

Am I not supposed to know anything about anywhere if I am not from there??

How can you arrive at such a conclusion??

What job do you??

Wow, juststay out of medicine mate, as you might end up removing someones brain for a headache with conclusions like that.

But what intrigued me even more is why is it interesting ...... are you looking for a date??

Not everybody wants to eat their food out of a tin or a packet. Oh wait a minute most Anglos do as they can't cook!

you obviously dont know much about the Anglos then do you......
unless you mix with the sort that are at your level

I think I know more than you since I live in England.

Watch this film:-

At 2.34 mins we see Gasman wondering why her hair has gone so thin on top. Then at 3.10 mins we see Milo and BOF discussing the price of food.
