Would a solution have been found for the Island?
What would have happened?
The fact that no military forces have been withdrawn in the almost 30 years since the declaration ought to tell you precisely what would happen.
All I am asking if they were withdrawn, do you think we would have the same situation today? or would we go back to the same as the 60's
Things would be done properly. The RoC would one way or another reassert control of the occupied north, the 1960 treaties would be unilaterally abrogated by at least the RoC and Greece, and the constitution would be rewritten and presented on a take it or leave it basis. So no, it would be nothing like the 1960's.
It would be nothing like the 60s,aussie turk...it would be 100 times worse...In 1967 the TCs at Kofunye blocked one road to GC access...Makarios replied by sending Grivas and his paramilitaries to stage a full scale attack on the two villages (Kofunye and Aytotro) resulting in more than 20 TC deaths...The GC assault only stopped when Turkish jets flew over, and Turkey threatened to invade unless they stopped and Grivas was sent away from Cyprus...What do you think would've happened in 1983 had the Turkish troops withdrew?
I know what would have happened, I am showing our GC friends that the troops and guarantees are necessary. When they accept that maybe the unification talks can be agreed and concluded once and for all.
Being both australian and turk, I understand that your urge to take what is not yours must be immense. If only you stuck to stealing sheep to feed and clothe your children.
The resentment for you and those like you has been built into the Greek psyche for millenia. Faced with a decision, the RoC would rather cede the north than bring her citizens under another guarantee. Of course despite their "might", the turks lack the ability to force this kind of decision. So instead you live in your wretchedness with your precious guarantees in your open air prison camp; enjoy it.
