Flying to Ercan and travelling to Larnaca

Postby SAMSAMSAM » Mon Mar 01, 2010 7:37 pm

Hi there,

I had an little problem where I would like to get an answer.

I am suppose to go to the Larnaca this month.
I booked the flights last week and unfortunally I booked flights Amsterdam-Istanbul-Ercan and back.

Later on I did hear that there may be problems to enter to the Cyprus from TRNC.

Is it illegal for me to go to the Larnaca for few days and if not, what is the easiest way to get from Ercan to the Larnaca?
I searched that there is busses going to the Nicosia green line.

I hold the EU passport.

Thank you for your answers.

You should go back to the travel agent and change your flight.

Dude, it's an illegal point of entry. You'll probably get away with it but it'll piss a lot of people off. Was it cheaper than KLM direct to LCA?

Yes. It was cheaper.

So am I breaking the law if I fly to the Ercan. Travel to the Larnaca.
Stay few days in Larnaca. Then go back to the Ercan and fly back home?

My understanding was that it is not illegal for EU citizen to fly to the Ercan and then go to the Larnaca, if you first have a stop-over in Turkey.

Yes, It was much cheaper for me to fly to the Ercan and I had no idea about this problem.
I knew that there is a political issues, but I did not know that this would be such a big problem.
I could cancel my flights, but I would not get my money back
:(
I do not want to piss of anyone. I just want to see the Larnaca.

What should I do?

Illegal is not you but your travel agent - they have to compensate you because they arranged for you a flight wich is not recognized by IATA .
You should ask them to issue for you a ticket to the official airports of Cyprus, Larnaca or Paphos at the same price othrwise tell them that you will report their firm to IATA which can take off their working licence.

They are getting you in a flight without international issurance coverage and if something wrong happen your relatives will looking through Mafia to find info for you.

Despite above i can say the best places you can see in Cyprus is on the so called TRNC controlled area. Is however an illegal area which controlled by an invasion army.I am not in position to tell you to not visit this area (you can easily do it if you arrive in Larnaca int airport) but have always in mind that you are just helping the new Hitler's regime to survive.
