Kafenes, were the boys in Pt 3 playing Lingiri (right at the beginning)?

'Ararat' you-tube pt.3'

It looked like it!

Not to mention carpets!

So now we know the Armenians after their terrible ordeal, brought to Cyprus Kafenes, Lingiri and Lahmadjoun. That will do nicely. I enjoyed all of them.

I never enjoyed carpets, but what do they taste like.

(ok carpets too  )

My personal comments of this movie: After being recommended to me by an old Australian-Cypriot friend of mine, i searched it on line and found it. Downloaded the movie and watched it with the wife. We both agreed the idea and the script was very good but the actual film production could have been much better. I guess it all comes down to funding.
Deniz, I also believe 'lokmades' was an Armenian import as well, but I could be wrong. Talking about carpets, I have 2 small carpets which my grandparents brought with them around 1918 and they are probably circa 1890s. I wonder if they are worth anything. :)

Their value is not counted with money. Sentimental/historical they are worth much much more Kafenes. Keep them for your children and hope they will appreciate them.

Best not to talk about Lokmades; do you want to kill me with a glucose overdose?

Perhaps you are right about their origin perhaps not. I will NOT ask for a credible link.

Lokumia and lokoumades are 2 entirely different things. I thought you had these in Turkey too?

Well this is why I asked if he has them in Turkey, cause if you don't know the difference between loukoumia and loukoumades then you're not from around here.

Having joked about the Lurucadi's we also have to bear in mind the proper transliteration of certain words.

lokum/lokma they both can mean 'a mouthful'.

lokum is the Turkish delight/Loukoumia/lokoumia.

Lokma is the sticky fried 'dough' kept in syrup/ Oracles loukoumades.

Not easy, but hearing the way they sound you cannot mistake them.
