HEAVY RAINFALL IN THE TRNC TURNS INTO A DISASTER

Postby halil » Fri Feb 26, 2010 8:39 pm

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has been under the influence of heavy rainfall since last night which recalled fears of flood. Many roads have been closed across the North Cyprus and there were reports of mudslides in some areas.
Kyrenia witnessed the biggest rainfall this time, the Karaoglanoglu region being in the worst condition.
Roads in Karaoglanoglu were closed to the traffic but later opened under the police control.
The water level had been very high in the region and strong water flows are affecting transportation.
Brooks are flowing like a river,

Villages of Yilmazkoy and Sirinevler were highly affected.
Military and police forces, the Civil Defence Organization and teams from the Forest Department are working hard to help easing the situation in all regions affected by heavy rain.

Meanwhile, Gonyeli Dam overflew.
Houses surrounding the region have been evacuated.

Officials are cautious that the water overflowing from Gonyeli will reach the borders of capital Nicosia.
The dam in Gecitkoy overflew too, and the water is flowing to the sea, thus preventing heavy flood from hitting the village.

Some houses in the Karsiyaka village are also reported to be damaged by flash floods.
Furthermore, transportation on roads to Nicosia, Guzelyurt and Kyrenia had been very difficult as heavy rains caused a significant decline in the eyesight.

Famagusta was also affected by heavy rains but no reports of serious destruction were delivered.
CapitalNicosia has also been on alarm and the industrial zone has been the most affected area.
some work places in the area were hit by flash floods.

And the moral of the story is that you should leave and not attempt to live in Cyprus!

A plague on all the stolen houses ...
