I think Yialousa and Oracle would appreciate this.
Although I do respect the Greeks of the diaspora who have achieved alot in their adopted countries, I can't say the same for Greeks in Greece.

I've always said, the Greeks of the diaspora are more Greek than the Greeks from Greece...

Ierodiaconou is a typically GREEK CYPRIOT name. You will not find any of them in the Greek phone book.

ENGLISH STAR BLOWN AWAY BY BLIZZARD OF OZ AT UPTON PARK

Kevin Mitchell took a three-round hammering against super Aussie Michael Katsidis at Upton Park.

The Dagenham boy, nicknamed "The Hammer" couldn't withstand the brutal attacks of the man known as "The Warrior".

As if he knew he was taking on a fiercely-partisan crowd, as well as the emerging boxing talent of Mitchell, Katsidis stormed onto the attack from the first bell.

And midway through the third unleashed the flurry of punches, including a p owerful left-hook to Mitchell's chin, that forced the stoppage and ensured the visitor was crowned WBO interim lightweight champion.

Mitchell could have no complaints about this defeat but the 25 year-old Essex boy insisted: "I can come back from this. I'll be back after the summer.

"I've been in with big punchers before but I was lured onto a punch, made a mistake and paid the price. It was a great left hook he hit me with."

There were 30,000 fight fans - including Chelsea's FA Cup winner Joe Cole - inside West Ham's home ground willing Mitchell to victory.

In the end they sportingly saluted the victor and had the Aussie hoping he can return for another stadium spectacular. Katsidis said: "I've spent three months in Thailand preparing for this fight.

"I feel I'm in the best shape of my life and I'd love to have 30,000 people like this supporting me in future fights."

Katsidis judged his fight tempo impeccably. He must have been aware that Mitchell was unbeaten in 31 fights.

But Katsidis was from a class apart - and it showed. Before the first bell the fighters were stomping with anticipation, desperate to lay gloves on each other.

The first round ended with Katsidis literally chasing Mitchell around the ring in a flat out assault.

Mitchell had to show he was a smart counterpuncher to keep the Aussie at bay.

And the second round developed into a thrilling feast of strike and counterpunch between the well-matched duo. Mitchell could not allow himself to be caught on the ropes as Katsidis showed his ability to unleash a flurry of punches.

That was a vital lesson. In the next round he appeared to have forgotten it.

He was trapped as Katsidis pounded him with short, sharp shots including the vicious left hook that sparked his downfall.

Earlier, Danny Williams lost his British heavyweight title inside two rounds against Derek Chisora.

The challenger had 36 year-old Williams wobbling with a right uppercut and floored him twice before the fight was stopped.

Williams had promised this would be his last fight in the build up to the bout.

Last night's events mu s t surely ensure he fulfils that promise.

How about you claim all the credit for Katsidis, and Australia claims all the credit for Lydia, seeing as though she don't even consider herself Cypriot, does not speak Greek or Cypriot, and is as much a product of Australia's very fine sporting institutes, superior training and massive government investment in Sport as well as being a product of Australia's far superior sporting heritage and history as a nation at the pinnacle of international support!

Who cares about pseudo-Cypriot wogs...

What is it about Cyprus and many other places that stop people achieving thier potential? Why is it that many Cypriot born people have to leave Cyprus to achieve anything? The most successful Cypriots in any area of endevour typically live and work outside of Cyprus. My theory is that corruption is so endemic that only about 30 families control Cyprus.Nepotism never produces anything great. Many other countries do not operate like this.

Get Real there is no need to be unpleasant. Some of us lost our homes so we had to leave Cyprus. We never burdened the free areas or received any refugee assistance. In fact we visit and pay to stay in hotels in the free areas and hire cars and support the economy of the free areas in other ways. Just because we are from Kyrenia does not mean we are no longer Cypriots. I think it will do you good to travel out of Cyprus a little bit maybe you too can achieve something Great in your life!

Thank you for your excellent post!

However, it is with sadness that I must say that many refugees have exploited loop holes and benefited by having refugee grants because of their political allegiances even though they are not entitled to such assistance.

Ever since Christofias came to power, we are seeing the same nonsense and corruption that contributed to Greece's demise. So Cypriots need to be very vigilant because they are being taken for a ride, and if they are not careful, Cyprus too will experience the same problems as Greece in the near future.

As for Cypriots not achieving their full potential, I believe it is a little unfair to compare Cyprus to other countries like the US or Australia. You are talking about countries with phenomenal potential. In Australia for instance, a high school drop out is able to easily get a job as a blue collar worker within the mining industry and earn something like 140,000AUD or 100,000 Euros per annum + super. And they only work 6 months a year, with 6 months off! These opportunities don't exist in Cyprus, and if they did, you can probably guarantee that a dimwit will get the job.

If someone such as Lydia displays good sporting potential, they are given massive amounts of support from the Australian government and private enterprise, thus allowing young people with sporting talent to achieve their full potential. Such luxury does not exist in Cyprus. It is a small country I guess, but there is so much wastage which could be reduced and eliminated so that they State is better able to support and spend money in sport, education, and attract new industries and create more jobs and better opportunities.

It comes down to this. Cyprus needs a government with balls, and so does Greece. Let me know when this happens!
