I am not so sure if I agree with you there. America seems to have a project of replacing secularism with what it perceives to be 'moderate Islamism' in Turkey, in the belief that Turkey can then serve as a role model for the rest of the Middle East. They are incapable of understanding that the difference between 'moderate' and 'radical' political Islam is tactical rather than one of substance. To America, Erdoğan and his crew are the goodies. Even so, I agree that it is hard to perceive of Turkey becoming an Islamic Republic.

I am not so sure if I agree with you there. America seems to have a project of replacing secularism with what it perceives to be 'moderate Islamism' in Turkey, in the belief that Turkey can then serve as a role model for the rest of the Middle East. They are incapable of understanding that the difference between 'moderate' and 'radical' political Islam is tactical rather than one of substance. To America, Erdoğan and his crew are the goodies. Even so, I agree that it is hard to perceive of Turkey becoming an Islamic Republic.

We will have to disagree for once old cove, what? I can't believe that America would allow Turkey to go down the Iran route. One big difference also is that 75% the population in Iran was like GR, unable to read and write.
