Viewpoint,

Do you really see it as a security? & is it really the TC's that still want it?

I'm not trying to wind anyone up, The truth is people North & South would like to go back to their homes and get on with their lives. Turkey knows this will never happen so long as they are there, was life truly that bad before.
Obviously I am English married to a GC, brought up in London & mixed with both, The people living next door were TC originally from Limassol,we were very close, my kids played with hers! she used to tell me they got on well with GC's, My husband's friends as a boy were both & he worked with TC's as a man.

I know that the terrible things that happened in the passed will not nor should they be forgotten, but a way through this must be found.

It's all a problem of perspective- we don't see you as being at risk, but we see Turkey as being a risk to our security.
I really wish something like this, that has become a very real red line, had been stated earlier.

so whats the middle ground?

If I knew, I'd be in politics....

Personally, I'd say scaled, gradual (and slow) removal of Turkish troops with set, definitive timetables along with gradual disarmament of everyone, along with an equality ombudsman with executive powers for integration/ equality, appointed from Brussels. Possibly coupled with a purely light infantry of fixed, mixed percentages, and an oath to Cyprus, trained and commanded by foreign mercenaries with an outright ban on Greek and Turkish nationals serving in the aforementioned forces.

TAF is 5 minutes away. They dare not start anything. We held for 11 years we can hang on for 5 minutes. There is nothing to worry about.
