Letter of Mr. M. Theodorakis to the President of the Cypriot Parliament
Nicosia, 16.02.2010

“For all the duration of my eventful life, Cyprus never left my thoughts”, emphasizes the great Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis in a letter issued to the President of the Cypriot Parliament, Marios Karoyan.

M. Theodorakis thanks the Parliament of Cyprus for the organisation of an event dedicated to his works and lifelong activities.

“There is no longer room for false steps”, mentions Mr. Theodorakis and concludes that “That is why, we must all, hand in hand, resist with all our powers, so that Hellenism remains unscathed, that our Hellenic nature remains as we inherited it, by consecutive generations of Greeks, through Enlightment, Culture, sacrifices and blood… We are not allowed to take one step backwards!”

I don't think anything Theodorakis said is at odds with Mr Karoyan's affiliations.

Hellenism isn't just about Nationality. Surely Mr Karoyan upholds all those Hellenic ideals, as a representative of a democratically elected government.

Also, I am sure he would be the last to deny the Greek heritage of Cyprus.
