Rugby is alive and well in Cyprus, though I am not sure how many teams are involved. The most successful is the Pafos Tigers.

I watched them play a team from Nicosia a couple of year back; the confusion between the Nicosia team players when shouting to each other was hilarious. It comprised Greek speaking Cypriots, English speaking Cypriots, some Afrikan speaking Cypriots (ex-SA) as well as some black UN players shouting out in yet a further language.

Far better than the softies playing soccer who need to be stretchered off when their shirts get pulled.

There are about 10 sides in the Cyprus league, includes military from the bases.

I was the medical cover for the first Mouflon game against Greece who are at least one level above Cyprus in the rankings.

Score Cyprus 39 - Greece 3

Its a pity they do not get enough funding from powers that be, maybe if they were a soccer team from Peyia it would be different.

We have a pretty good club up here, too.

You won't let us play down there but you can come up here, any time you like, if you think you're hard enough!
