No guarantees and no guarantors for the RoC.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Overseas invaders/conquerors/rulers/colonisers of Cyprus through the ages...

Hittites
Assyrians
Myceneans
Arcadians
Phoenicians
Persians
Macedonians
Romans
Arabs
Byzantines
Crusaders
Knights Templar
Lusignans
Maronites
Venetians
Ottomans

Greek military junta
Turks

And you say removing a Cypriot defence force will build confidence?

No it isn’t! TCs are NOT a country to be in a position make such decisions. The official national guarantor is the CNG whether you like it or not.

GR, we cannot have the CNG; we must have a name change: CNA - Cyprus National Army. In many TCs eyes, the CNG has negative connotations.

Problem is, if you “can’t” have the country’s very own military guard, and you “can’t” have the country’s very own ancient inheritance because you don’t like it, and you “can’t” have the country’s very own people because you can’t stand them, you “can’t” have the country’s very own predominant language because you don’t know it, and you “can’t” have the country’s very own…. etc, etc

THEN WHAT THE DAMN FUCK ARE YOU TURKISH ALIENS DOING IN CYPRUS ANYWAY???

Have you quite finished. You rant like a fake wrestler on WWF  Mind you dont burst a blood vessel GR.

You always seem to let loose like that when a 'reasonable' point is put to you. You once claimed you were the master debater. I think you mispelt it.

What the TCs want is a Cyprus that isn’t Cyprus but a refashioned NEW entity somewhat Turkic, somewhat Ottoman, somewhat God knows what …, but it’s NOT going to happen because once the EU slowly but surely nudges Turkey out of Cyprus, the TCs on their own will capitulate to European authority.

Yeah but isn't that the argument you use about TC's not needing any guarantors. Surely then naturally follows that GCs do not need any army becasue they have the guarantee of the EU. What's good for the goose is good for the gander and all that, what?
If you accept no army then I will accept no guarantee, how about that for compromise?
Game set and match surely?

EU guarantee, incorporating existing Cypriot defence forces, complimented by additional EU forces where needed to protect fully the EU's south-eastern flank, under EU (including local Cypriot) command.

The deal is no army. De-militarise. How can Turkey justify having an army here if that was the case. Think about what it means to Cyprus. You will then cage the bear. We don't need an army. Japan and Germany didn't have one after ww2. we are no different.

OK. It's not an army; it's an EU administered security force providing guarantees and protecting EU's south-eastern flank with the option to revert back to full local Cypriot control if/when Cypriots have built enough confidence amongst themselves to run it for themselves and in their own (and EU) interests.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo, there is no danger in the southern flank, no need for security, Nato provides that. We got plenty. You can have too much of a good thing. EU will guarantee us, no problem.

This might work if Cyprus's existing defence forces could be incorporated into Nato. Can't see President Christofias agreeing to this.

I think a time comes when one has to face the unpleasant reality....

Over the centuries the Cypriot armed forces have failed miserably in their duty to protect the country's borders...That is painfully obvious from Malapapa's list above...So why have a national guard that is incapable of guarding the nation...???Time to think outside the square...If anybody is capable of that...
