Does that mean he will smell 'mentholy'?

Whilst on about 'smells' do you think we could ban those out there who have B.O. (body odour) please? The cooler months here are not so bad, but I dread the summer months ............................

Good job you don't live in Nova Scotia then where the righteous have managed to ban deodorants!

They are calling it Halifax Hysteria. Three months ago this weekend, a perfume ban became official public policy in this mid-size maritime capital. Since then, all municipal buildings here, including schools, libraries, courts, even City Hall, as well as many workplaces, theatres and shops, have become officially "scent-free."

We think the smoking ban is bad!

Smokers ought to seek help in order to rid themselves of this nasty smelly drug addiction.
When you get near someone that reeks of tobacco its like having your face stuck down the loo ,
and to think some still consider this third world dated habit as ....cool and....sexy , as cool and sexy as sticking your face down the....loo , again !!

I don't smoke but I can't agree with you...

What about personal choice...?

What about those that dislike things like alcohol, fatty foods, gambling or even perfume as much as you dislike smoking...? Should those all be banned too...?

Mate you are talking shite !!!
Personal choice is available to smokers , but personal choice to polute my air in a restaurant , pub or public place works both ways. Take your filthy third world smelly habit away from me , thats my personal choice , the comparisons you gave above , sorry mate I do like you , but are spot on with your signature !! I mean , come on man, a burger , a gorgeous smelling woman and you compare this with the filthy tobacco fumes !!
Give it mate especially since you don't smoke your self .

I was having a look at some material about the scent-free policy in Halifax, and I must admit I start to see where you are coming from.

Milit - you keep equating smokers with the third world - what does that say about Greece and Cyprus - the two countries that top the list for smokers (outside the third world)?

Ignore that then (although you won't have to wait long for restrictions in the areas I highlighted)...

Think of it another way...

You said it was the best act of parliament ever...?

Who voted for it...?

Which party had it on their election manifesto?

I can't speak for Cyprus but in the UK nobody had a chance to vote for it.

No party had it on their election manifesto.

In fact, the health minister Caroline Flint specifically promised that they weren't thinking of an outright ban in pubs and restaurants...

So who wanted it...?

Pressure groups.

Pressure groups convinced government to introduce a law that the people who elected them didn't vote for and a large majority didn't want.

Pressure groups introduced the perfume ban in Nova Scotia...

Pressure groups will restrict your ability to enjoy a drink or a burger - because they don't like it.

And nobody will have had a chance to vote for any of it...

My dear friend , admirable as it is your tenacious support of smoking Im afraid you are dreadfully irresponsibly wrong , encouragement must be directed at those who are still addicted to this horrid drug to give up .
Now let us be serious . Do you know how many diabetics there are in Cyprus ?
I don't have the exact figure but my guess is that one in 100 is a diabetic , that makes the number of sufferers , my self included , about 75 thousand. Do you know one of the primary questions asked of diabetics? Do you smoke ? If the answer is yes then you are very strongly TOLD to give up , it clogs up the arteries and it causes much harm to the heart.
I don't know how old you are but I feel since you yourself don't smoke please do not encourage those that might be influenced by you to continue this dreadful disgusting and dirty habit.
Give up now you are being ridiculous! I still like you mate but you are talking shite !!

I'm 50...

I don't really care about smoking - I don't smoke...

i do believe in personal freedoms and the right to choose...

I believe in democracy...

I believe that if the majority in the UK believe the smoking ban is wrong then it is wrong. After all, politicians are meant to represent us, their paymasters.

I respect your views on smoking but they are irrelevant to this argument. It is about personal responsibility, freedom to choose and democracy.

I'm not encouraging people to smoke, I'm fighting for the right for people to choose to smoke or not if they want to.
