Famagusta" Why Varosha/ maras is not in use!

Postby Yak » Thu Feb 18, 2010 4:23 pm

Really i dont want to reenact any memories or be misunderstood by any one but i was in famagusta yesterday and varosh/marash precisely and i saw the barricaded town. I was bewildered on why will the Turkish soldiers did not allow the TCs to use the buildings and properties there since they are even better the ones built recently in Famagusta. Was it because they were afraid of hidden mines, booby traps or bombs. What are the reasons why they do not want the TCs and mainland turks use these properties since they were allowed to used the lands and properties in other places. I am neither a GC, TC. TURK nor BRIT. So be reasonable in Ur response

The usual line accepted by both sides is that it's held by Turkey as a bargaining chip for negotiations. The town has come up in talks many times over the years. If you ask me Turkey bit off more than it could chew on the last day of the offensive and, finding the place deserted, surrounded and sealed it off before looting it.

Things may have turned out very differently had the population stayed put, but that's easy to say without the rumble of approaching tanks and fast jets in your ears. I had a chromium-plated Turkish army revolver practically stuck in my mouth while begging for my life in that place, so I make no judgements.

Yak, I think you should stick to the dodgy sex forum and leave intelligent discussion to others.

The question is NOT why aren't Turk-TCs "allowed to use Famagusta"; but WHY any Turk-TCs are "allowed" ANY of the GC properties and to hold on to nearly half our country, illegally, inhumanely and immorally!
