A victim of the Turkish Cypriot 'exchange' scam asks…

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Yes the warnings were in place, but not on estate agent and property developer websites!

I sometimes think the only Brits I've ever met who BELIEVE and TRUST estate agents are those who decided to buy property in the TRNC!

I know somebody who has bought in the north, when I questioned his wisdom for doing it he told me if a G/C comes after his property all he has to do is pay him 1974 prices. This is what he was told in the North and that is what he wanted to believe all the other warnings he ignored

And I know several who bought and who were told by their Estate Agents there that, if the GCs ever came and claimed what was theirs, they would guarantee to pay back what they paid for the property. No mention of paying compensation to the GC or who would pay that compensation.

Its so easy to be wise after the event however back in 2004 these properties were widely available on the Internet.None of the properties advertised were existing GC properties most were artists impressions of complexes These are some of the selling tactics widely used then.

In the event of a settlement GC would preferably keep the deeds for the land in the South as its worth much much more
This land was previously grazing land, any compensation minimal as it is pre 74 prices
This land was exchanged between a GC and a TC
Exchange land guaranteed by the TRNC
Why pay top price for pre74 tc land when Eshder is safer.
This land wasn't any one's before now it is TRNC land etc etc etc

If you are being told this by solicitors, estate agents, the locals, government officials why would you question it.I totally agree with some of the posters on here that it was a scam of massive proportions. this will leave some people not only penniless but homeless .Some of you will no doubt come back with serves them right and I agree with you to a certain extent if your venom is directed to the speculators, who at the time were buying blocks of apartments, two or three villas, never intending to live in them and selling them on for a profit. The one,s who don't deserve that venom but the support of the EU courts are the Joe Soaps of this world who have worked all there life sold up completely for somewhere to spend the rest of their days. These along with the genuine GC are the true victims in all of this and it is the investors, speculators that should be taken to task with all the might of the Judicial system.Whats the old saying the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

You’re getting awfully confused here! This thread is NOT about “title deed problems”, but GC land/properties being usurped by Turkish Cypriots in the occupied territory under an international scam.
