Turkish Lack of Good Will and Compromise Condemned

Postby bill cobbett » Wed Feb 17, 2010 3:00 am

Gr PM Papandreou condemns the Turkish lack of good will and compromise over the past 15 months in the talks.

From CY Weekly ....

Papandreou calls on Turkey to compromise

MOSCOW - Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou has called on Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot community to compromise in an effort to reach a settlement to the Cyprus problem.
Speaking during a working visit to Moscow Papapandreou said a settlement was possible.
“Fifteen months have already passed since the talks commenced and although certain progress has been made regarding governance, power sharing and the economy it is unfortunate that no real developments have been made on other matters.”
He added that if Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot community did not show the necessary good will and compromise, as President Christofias had, then the talks would not have a successful outcome.

During his visit to Moscow Papandreou held a series of meetings with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev and Russian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin

OK. He has identified the problem:

He added that if Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot community did not show the necessary good will and compromise, as President Christofias had, then the talks would not have a successful outcome.

And now for the Solution:

During his visit to Moscow Papandreou held a series of meetings with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev and Russian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin

what did they expect from the turks? to stop pushing for two states to not only demand equal rights but MORE power and rights then gcs and say they are comprimising a lot by allowing this?

and on top of it they will put the hard liner in as leader, so it shows how much turkey wants a solution a fair one.. they will stick to taksim all the way

something i liked to note is that diplomatic anouncements by politicians are not to be taken literally but instead to be broken down and analysed to find the reasons and means trying to be achieved by that statement

From Bayrak Radyo Televizion website today:

The TRNC Parliament will convene an extraordinary session tomorrow to prepare a resolution in response to a decision taken by the Greek Cypriot House of Representatives rejecting guarantorship rights.
In a statement on the issue, Parliamentary Speaker Hasan Bozer said the Cyprus Turkish Side will announce to the world that it will never give up the Treaties of Guarantee and Alliance. The Speaker of the Republic's Assembly Hasan Bozer held a press conference today during which he announced that the Parliament will convene in an extraordinary session tomorrow to prepare a counter resolution to declare the Turkish Side’s position regarding the guarantorship rights.

Stressing that the Treaties of Guarantee and Alliance are within the Turkish Side’s `indispensable red lines`, Mr Bozer said that all political parties are working on a common paper which will be discussed at tomorrow’s extraordinary session.

The speaker complained that the Greek Cypriot Side has been undertaking initiatives that could sabotage and lead to the collapse of the talks at a time when the negotiations are continuing and the Turkish Side shows political will towards a solution.

`We, the Turkish Side, had serious concerns over whether the Greek Cypriot Side wants an ethical agreement or not. And now, we face a resolution which sabotages the talks and reflects the Greek Cypriot Side’s philosophy`, he said.

The speaker said that the Cyprus Turkish Side is sincere about the talks and all political parties are supporting the negotiation process in order to bring the talks to a conclusion.

An ethical agreement to what? Having Turkey dictate to the ROC, we'vebeen through that fairy tale once before, The Turk ultimatums are worthless nowadays, They also threatened to end all talks and be annexed by Turkey, if the ROC joined the EU....blah blah blah...as they say in Oklahoma, "....shit on the pot or get off of it"
