Well responding to that my believes are that Erdogan is a modernising leader that wants to push the army out of the state's affairs... and that's what the europeans want... they would never ever allow a country into the EU that has a state within a state that they can't control because you can't make a political decision with a country's leader that can by overwriten by the army.
The way i would see it is this...

The europeans award Erdogan in so recognising he's doing a good job
The story would make headlines in turkey
Voters will see that EU backs-up erdogan so their conclusion is if we want to enter the EU we should vote for erdogan again in so diminishing the army's power on politics (erdogan's goal)
EU gets what it wants and has tyrkey being led by someone that wants to please them and struggle to achieve the goals they set for the country

Yes hes doing a good job in the sense that he wants the army out.

but they want to have the trnc recognised that way they wont be a state in a state i dont think he waqnts to push the army out to re unite the land. he wants a second state in cyprus.
