What brings you here?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I had not realised that me and you were from different generations

Are you picking a fight? Then you win.

It's not a straight cut situation Palio, I lived in Cyprus for nearly 10 years. Looking at the island from Oz make one look at things from a different perspective. In Australia at least I can see some sort of future worth striving for, but in Cyprus I can't see myself going anywhere. The opportunities Australia gives me are far better than those in Cyprus. If I ever live in Cyprus again I'll choose to live a segregated life away from all this shit. I'd never listen to the news or read the papers.

Its frustration talking Palio. I feel the same sometimes, but find myself more sucked into the problem as I care.

Well there is plenty of oppertunity in cyprus plenty of un thought of businesses but definatly lots more in australia i imagine and since you did not live that many years in cyprus.

I notice the foreign cypriots mostly dont care about cy or the problem or dont know that much about it and dont care to know anything about it or much i guess hats a good thing in a way. but you forget your roots and forget your own language that way.

I agree and disagree...

Postby cymart » Tue Feb 16, 2010 5:28 pm

Foreign Cypriots sometimes care more about the Cyprus problem than most people here do,so I would differ with Umit on that but I also, unfortunately, have to agree that Cyprus society is f*****,even though I try to avoid the use of this word!As Yiangos Mikkelides wrote in Politis, the number one interest of most Cypriots is how to get money, power and influence by any means possible, and then if they get it,how to stop somebody else from taking it away from them! They are hedonists par excellence with very little consciousness about anything else but when this is the example set by most of the establishment, can you really blame the rest of the people??As Yiangos wrote, hardly anybody even knows, let alone cares whether Christophias and Talat meet each other and the whole thing is just a farce which would be funny if it were not so tragic!!I fully agree and wrote this posting with great regret, not gloating...

It is unfair to tarnish the Cypriots with this trait, this is true of anyone of any nationality and any country.

Mikelides, is not one to be giving advice and if you do follow his advice I feel sorry for you.

Money, power, position, this is a human instinct, the best way to it is becoming a politician.

So I don't acept that statement, in fact I find it offensive.

I do agree however, that foreign Cypriots are more nationalistic and care more about the Cyprob that the resident Cypriots, especially the older generations.

What I don't understand is, don't people get bored just bitching non-stop in the Cy Problem area? Being away from Cyprus has softened me to an extent that I personally just don't care about the damn place anymore. I reckon the best solution is to nuke the island then reopen it to settlement some 50 years down the track. Having said that if I don't log on for a day, I feel as if something is missing. :? So what brings the rest of you weirdo's here?

I just love spuddling.
