The Cypriots think they know everything, they always did. In reality, much is to be learn by recent events from the so called "Foreigners".
Just copied and pasted a few sentences from WIKI:
The East German regime started to falter in the summer of 1989, when Hungary opened a hole in the Iron Curtain. It caused an exodus of thousands of East Germans going to West Germany via Hungary. The Peaceful Revolution was a series of protests by East Germans. The Peaceful Revolution led to the GDR's first free elections on 18 March 1990
On 18 May 1990, the two German states signed a treaty agreeing on monetary, economic and social union. A reunification treaty between West Germany and the GDR was negotiated in mid-1990 and finally approved by large majorities in the legislative chambers of both countries on 20 September 1990.[5] After that last step Germany was officially united at 00:00 CET on 3 October 1990.
The Germans were pretty quick on this one. It just took them about a year to take care of business. Swift and bold action at work.
The Cypriots, after 36 years, are about to take a giant step backwards, thanks to our "brilliant politicians".

You're being hard on the politicians. Germany was reunified only after the Soviet Union started to crumble, following glasnost and perestroika. The same, I'm afraid, needs to happen to Turkey.
What's Turkish for 'glasnost' and 'perestroika'? Achieve that and Cypriot reunification will follow.
Hi there Malapapa,
You know, you are one of the better posters on CF, congrats.
All your answers/comments are right on the money.
Why I am being too hard on the politicians? Are you suggesting we give them more time? Another...what... let's say 30 years?
These guys are the scum of the earth! Take for example the Clerides-Ntenktas talks, lasted for ever. Both of them would meet and smoke pipes all day long. These "talks" when on and on and on... for years on end, while displaced citizens from both sides waited to go home!
Later, others tried to talk... nothing.
The 2004 horror show takes place. The people are asked to vote for the Annan plan. Both Tassos & Ntenktas were against it. Tassos, a former EOKA member and Ntenktas, a TMT founder. Failure again.
Now we have "intensive negotiations". What is your take on this? You already know my predictions.
Georgios
Georgios, just read my signature, it says it all.
Our politicians are tied, what else can they do in the face of blackmail and threats.
Now do you agree with the signature or not?
If yes, you have your answer.
If no, then we have to just agree to turkify all of Cyprus to please the few defeatists, which are you file??
Very nice signature, thanks.
B25, Do you want a solution?
If you do, read the whole thread to realize that the politicians are part of the problem too.
My proposal, to by-pass the politicians, has nothing to do with a solution as per Turkey's wishes. I simply point the fact that we are stationary with no end in sight.
If you think our politicians are tied, why don't we look for an alternative. Sticking with the politicians don't work anymore.
Everybody has it's own version of a possible solution. In the end, there is going to be one. Not all will be satisfied but many will be. It's the many that count, not your version or mine.
