HSBC and the UK Financial Services Authority

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Gasman » Sun Feb 14, 2010 1:26 am

ITV viewer complaints? Well I don't watch ITV! Nor BBC. I only have my Cyp TV and the odd English programme. But I never watched telly in the UK either.

I only know about this because it was featured on YouTube. I will see if I can find the link to it.

Gasman wrote:Well as Candounas has specifically stated that next on the hit list will be people who stayed in GC owned hotels, I thought it was a bit irresponsible for a national TV corporation to be recommending people to do just that.

Here is what I emailed them:

Craig Doyle's Travel Tips this week featured Riverside Holiday Village, Kyrenia.

This holiday village is in the Turkish occupied North of Cyprus (not mentioned).

And is one of the hotels on the LIST OF HOTELS ILLEGALLY OPERATED IN THE OCCUPIED AREA OF CYPRUS

http://www.cyprusembassy.net/home/index ... ges&cid=45

In view of the recent ECJ judgement against the Orams for trespass on GC land, this seems rather imprudent to say the least.
Especially as Mr Candounas, the lawyer for the winning side has categorically stated that he has now been instructed to pursue British and other foreigners who stay in these hotels for trespass starting with the Dome Hotel in Kyrenia.

Sincerely
xxxx

Their only response so far:

Thank you for contacting This Morning.

As you can imagine, we receive hundreds of emails each day, we are always interested in hearing your comments, views and reading your stories.

It is very important to us to hear from our viewers but unfortunately, we are unable to respond personally to every email. All emails are read and forwarded to the relevant departments.

Thank you for your interest in our show.

Regards

I am very interested to hear what they have to say so I do hope they respond further.

Yet another slap in the face of GCs, man they are coming thick and fast.

VP, you are such a dreamer, slaps are coming your way, all we need is just a few more to write in and then they will start taking note.

Gasman, let me have the email address you wrote and I'll send something too. As for HSBC, the're gonna be getting a stiff one too.

Cheers

Perhaps, but this was before any rulings of the ECJ. Now we have a stick to beat them with. Hold your hat on, you're in for a roller coaster ride!

After HSBC, its going to be the next big name, Vodafone springs to mind.

You've no idea how useless the UK FCA is, allowing some junior on the customer advice desk to score such a monumental own goal - and on FSA letterhead paper, too!

Malaprop,

How predictable was it that when they didn't support your complaint, it was because the UK FSA is "useless"? If you knew they were useless, why did you write to them?

1. How do you know the reply to your complaint was from a "junior"?
2. Even if she was a "junior", do you really think that the FSA allows "juniors" to answer "serious" complaints without reference to their superiors?
3. Do you really think "juniors" are allowed to write on FSA letterheaded paper unsupervised?

1. Spelling mistakes, inaccuracies, disregard of the UK's treaty obligations and international law. Naivety, lack of awareness and incompetence. (I could be describing you).
2. Yes. It's a large, government agency where vision, focus and principle are lacking and naivety, lack of awareness, incompetence and stupidity are common place.
3. Ditto.

I suspect that this may have been your first and only contact with the UK FSA, ref this matter and it is clear that the reply just didn't suit you.
Once they told you your complaint didn't fall within their remit, it was game over for you. Anything further in the reply was just a courtesy to bring you into the picture and advise you where to take your complaint. If you are not happy with the reply, take it further.
