Ankara. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s nephew has been arrested, along with six other people, on accusations of narcotics trafficking, the online edition of Turkish Hurriyet newspaper writes, citing information of CNNTurk.
Mehmet Erdoğan, the son of the prime minister’s late brother, was among the 11 people detained and interrogated by the Istanbul Police Department over the past three days and then taken to court.
The prime minister told officials “to do what the laws tell them to do about [his] nephew,” according to the reports.
After receiving a notice report, the Istanbul Police Department began tracking down the suspects. The police followed them through the city and made visits to businesses and homes as part of the operation, in which a total of 50 kilograms of hashish were confiscated.
Eleven kilograms of hashish were found at a rental car company often frequented by Mehmet Erdoğan. According to the Doğan news agency, he was caught in the wire-tapping done by the Istanbul police.
