should greece be expelled from euroland!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

The dark sides contribution is pretty miniscule in comparision to the big players, you only started to contribute in 2007 before hten you were takers;
Net contributions in EUR millions
(Negative amounts mean that, according to the Commission’s calculations, the country has paid more towards the EU’s budget than it should if there were to be a balance between payments and receipts between the EU and the Member State.)

A country can indeed leave the EU, but in principle this requires the consent of all Member States.

There is nothing in the current Treaty provisions on procedure for the withdrawal of a country, but Greenland set an example by leaving the EC in 1985.

A country cannot be expelled from the EU. On the other hand, it is possible for certain of a country’s rights in the EU, including voting rights in the Council, to be suspended. This can happen if a Member State has seriously and consistently violated the principles on which the EU is based: freedom, democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms and the principle of the rule of law, which means that the EU’s rules are applied and their observance is ensured.

Which is why us members need to be so methodical with Turkey's membership candidacy, so we don't need to punish it later.

The problem with Greece is not very severe in a global sense. They will get patched up and will move on in due course. There are bigger economies in more distress - those are the ones to watch out for.

Should they be sacked? No; nor do I think they will be.

BTW, I believe Barclays had coined PIIGS - Ireland was included in the acronym.

What has the Turkish Cypriot contribution been so far VP? Image

And if you think that we haven’t been contributing enough millions to the EU then perhaps the TCs can quit bludging in the RoC so we can pay some more! :roll:
