See what happens, erolz when you mislead the hoi polloi into believing the EU "promised" direct trade to the "TRNC"?

That really is pretty rich considering I am the one that has produced all the hard primary evidence of exactly what the EU has and has not said in the face of all sorts of misleading claims from others. I have done it here in this thread just as I did two years ago on this forum.

The issue of direct trade is not over. Every time the RoC blocks it there is a cost for the RoC in terms political capital that is the currecny of national self interest horse trading within the EU. In time the EU may implement some form of direct trade, or the RoC may continue to block it. The fat lady is still far from having sung over the issue of implementing the EU comissions proposals for direct trade.

Get a grip on reality…

Yet the EU commission , the 2nd most powerful body that makes up the EU and the one that reflects EU wide interests and not national ones proposed direct trade. The EU as a whole is still 'considering' how to implement direct trade. Why is this, if there is no incentive in the EU to achieve direct trade for the TC community against the national resistance of the RoC ?

Erol, haven’t the many failures of the “TRNC” to upgrade its illegal status, taught you anything yet?

Well once again if I have choose who is more likely to know what is legaly possible or not, between the EU comission and you as an indivdual I will unfrotunately have to side with the EU comission.

The EU commissions proposals on direct trade with the north has nothing to do with 'upgrading the status of the TRNC'.

It is to do with ending the isolation of the TC community in Cyprus and facilitating and increased prosperity for the TC community so that economic differences between GC and TC communites reduce in order to aid reunification. All agreed EU policies.

A couple of years ago even Britain; who was very keen to do Turkey a favor, looked into the legal aspects of direct flights and ultimately turned them down due to international laws as they explained in an official announcement.

I'm sure you knew about this too... but it seems that for some of you it's become a "challenge" to "find that loophole"!

You’d have to prove “isolation” first even though the “TRNC” has experienced a doubled GDP/GNP p/capita since 2003!

What do you think the RoC has been telling the EU all these years causing any further suggestions/proposals for direct trade to be abandoned?

EU policy agreed by all member states including the RoC is

The Council is determined to put an end to the isolation of the Turkish Cypriot community and to facilitate the reunification of Cyprus by encouraging the economic development of theTurkish Cypriot community.

The EU recognises isolation of the TC community, the RoC by agreeing this policy recognises such. The UN also recognises such.
